The 2017-18 Dual Language Immersion Program at Community Park
Introducing "Charlas"!

When the Dual Language Immersion (DLI) program launched two years ago, CP started Cafecitos, informal meetings designed to enable parents to support one another and learn from administrators at the start of the program. This year, Cafecitos will be entirely different - starting with the name. We have re-named Cafecitos to give more focus to our meetings. Now known as Charlas, these monthly meetings will be open to all CP parents, at all grade levels, whose children are in traditional and/or DLI classrooms. English and Spanish will be spoken. A “charla” is a conversation with a set topic.

Please see the meeting dates and tentative topics for the 2017-2018 school year listed below. Topics will be shared in advance as we move through the year and determine what CP parents would like to discuss. All meetings will take place from 8:45-9:30 AM in the CP APR. Feel free to join late or leave early as your schedule allows.

We look forward to seeing you!

In September 2015, after several years of preparation, the Princeton Public Schools launched a Dual Language Immersion (DLI) program at Community Park School for students in Kindergarten and first grade. Now in its second year the program has expanded to second grade and, in subsequent years, will continue to roll out in grades 3 to 5.

The district has adopted the 50/50 program model in which students receive one half of their core instructional time in a new language (Spanish is the chosen language for this immersion program) and the other half in English. Research has shown this model to be highly successful at not only teaching grade-level content but also at developing impressive levels of language proficiency.

Students work on a science lesson in their 2nd grade classroom.

Science Instruction in the DLI Program

Students in the DLI program receive science instruction in Spanish from their regular classroom teacher in addition to participating in a Science Lab that is also taught in Spanish. To learn more about the science instruction in the DLI program, please read the PDF below.
